Top Twelve New Years Resolutions for Professional Photographers for 2015

MorePhotos wants to wish everybody a happy and safe Holiday with a little motivation for the New Year. The new year is always a great time to look at last year’s goals. As the great artist that you are, it is sometimes hard to focus on business, what to do, and how to find the time accomplish our goals! So we thought we would just write a few basic business ideas down that might help photographers create a list of New Year’s Resolutions for 2015.

  1. I will not send anything out to any of my customers without a thank you and an action! (Thank you for your business, by the way we are a full portrait, senior and wedding photographers here is a coupon for a family portrait shoot, etc)
  2. I will answer my phone and if I can’t I will not procrastinate what so ever, to get them a call back.  (80% of people book the first person they talk to even if they call five companies)
  3. I will always look professional when out in public even if I’m having a bad day!
  4. I will send a Happy New Year’s card to all the top professionals in my Business (Sports send to school boards members – Wedding send to caterers, flower shops etc)
  5. I will always have my business cards on me!
  6. I will take pictures for the fun of it! (not just for work)
  7. I will frame some new images for my office!
  8. I will redo my sample Albums!
  9. I will get out more to parties and social events!
  10. I will keep a calendar for to do lists – keep me better organized
  11. I will spend more money on marketing than new equipment (company dislike spending money on marketing, though when everything goes belly up they advertise to sell their equipment)
  12. I will do more updates to my website/blog more often (the more you change it, the more the search engines will index your site and give you higher priority)

Annual Family Portrait Reminder

The last few months we have talked about leveraging your advantages, or using what you have that the new photographer does not have. We talked about making sure you are always sending a thank you and a call to action with each order. We also spoke about wedding photographers using images of venues to your advantage.

This time let’s talk about your past clients. What are you doing with these valuable connections? Many of them want to come back, but just need a a little nudge, a reason to pop back in the studio.

Example: Family Portraits

Keep your calendar from the previous year’s appointments and send a reminder the next year about two to three months prior to that anniversary. Follow up with a phone call a few days after they receive the postcard/ email. Remember that a small amount of work is required to keep your existing clients coming back. It takes much more to earn new business.

Here’s an example letter to get you started.

Dear Michael Connors,

I hope your family has had good health and happiness this last year. It has almost been a year since your family portraits and wanted to send you a reminder to get a date set for this year.

We had a great time working with your lovely family and we would be honored to be the photographer that will keep documenting your family in photos for you and future generations to enjoy.

As a valued client we wanted to offer you  $50.00 off the setting fee.  Since we took your photos out in the woods behind your house last year we suggest using the studio this year or we could go to (fill in your other favorite location).

We appreciate your business and look forward to seeing the gang again, how is uncle Joe’s foot?

Give me a call and we can talk about the perfect place for your photos this year!

Your Wedding Venue Images are Valuable

What do you have that a new photographer doesn’t have?

Beautiful Images from your Wedding Venues

You have captured weddings at many different locations, use them to your advantage! Put together a beautiful album for each of the popular banquet facilities.

In these albums you want to include the most romantic photos where the couples look madly in love.

Why? Every couple wants to be the most in love. If they see other couples madly in love at their wedding venue and you captured the emotion, they need you. As they think more in their emotional right brain, they use their analytical “that’s too expensive” left brain less. When your client is thinking in his/her right brain, price is not the issue.

I recommend doing this on your web site also. Start with a new page called Wedding location in your city. Here’s an example:

Leland Country Club,

Located in Leland Michigan

This beautiful location has 150 year old oak and Maple trees so we get some amazing photos in the woods. Because it is also on Lake Leelanau, we get some of the best beach shots available and the couples love leaving the ceremony on a pontoon boat which can be quite romantic. ( I could go on and you should if you have more you can offer)

(Real important to add capacity) will host from 200 inside to any size outside under tents.

Call Michael at 000-000-0000 www.leelanaucountryclub.com

(link to photos taken at that location here) Remember to include the most romantic images. The other shots are less important.

Check out the beautiful at Leelanau Country Club (Link)

With a little work, you will have wonderful albums to show around and leave at different locations: Hair salons, Bridal shows and of course the wedding venues themselves.

Adding the venues page to your website creates a wonderful resource for brides still picking out their venue. Helpful information is much more likely to be shared and used again in the future. This is a huge win win!
